Mission and Goals

POSOH’s local goal is to transform the vision and expectations for excellence in both science education and who can contribute to and benefit from science and bioenergy-related studies and careers.

The POSOH Project's mission includes both place-based and far-reaching focus and goals.

Locally, our mission is to develop community-wide and cross-institutional collaborations who co-construct approaches to formal and informal science education, valuing and infusing Indigenous contributions to scientific knowledge and culturally diverse ways of knowing into science teaching and learning. Thus, POSOH’s local goal is to transform the vision and expectations for excellence in both science education and who can contribute to and benefit from science- and bioenergy-related studies and careers.

More broadly, our mission is to build and steward a transformational model for creating place-based collaborations dedicated to reaching all learners—especially those who are underrepresented in science and science education—by valuing and infusing diverse cultural ways of knowing and their contributions to scientific knowledge into science teaching and learning. Thus, POSOH’s far-reaching goal is to document and share the Project’s local experiences so that other communities can learn from and build on our experiences and innovations.
